(Cont. from front page) enabling two groups to be accommodated on site at the same time. By now, the site employed a number of staff and the development of buildings, facilities and gardens increased at a great rate. Constant refurbishment from that time on brought CYC to the stage it is at today. Weekday and weekend bookings by schools and other groups, continued to grow. School holiday times were reserved for CYC’s holiday camp program exclusively. In 1998 having reached its ‘practical’ capacity to accommodate guests, and with waiting lists building up CYC began considering ways to extend the site “CYC continues to seek ways to be more effective in their ministry, both directly and indirectly” Story #6 ‘Any opportunity to outreach to your community is terrific. This year I was thrilled to have my 8 year old neighbour Tamsyn come to Turbo camp. She had a wonderful time, made many friends and is looking forward to the next camp already. The impact that God can have on the kids through Camp ministry is truly fantastic but there is also an impact that goes home as well. This can in turn initiate change for an entire family. I know it does because I've had those calls from parents in the past! I'm not sure how God will use Tamsyn's Turbo Camp experience from this summer, but I am excited for new opportunities to share our lives a little more across the fence with her Mum and Dad.’ Story #7 Laura, Michael and Matilda all came to the very first ADANAC Turbo Camp back in January 2009. Michael was a rat bag kid off his ADHD meds who's mum rang me before camp about this 'Christian stuff' we were teaching. Laura's parents ran the local milk delivery service and sponsored the first Turbo Highway advertising banner. And Matilda was the first camper to accept Christ in her heart whilst on camp. This year these three kids came back to camp. But this time they came as Junior Leaders not campers. It was awesome to see them sharing the camp experience with younger versions of themselves and creating enjoyable memories, powerful life lessons and sharing about Jesus in their lives. I am thrilled to be a part of something quite special like Turbo Camps where you see life changing moments just like these take place. Story #8 One of the many highlights of our Senior Teen Camp this Summer was Selahphonic, a Queensland based ministry/band, coming down and presenting to the campers. Many Campers were challenged by their presentation, and some responded to the gospel for the first time. . Lloyd McLean - Senior Teen Story #9 Over summer we offered a number of sponsorships to families who could not afford to send their kids to camp, the feedback and gratitude we were given back was incredible and opened my eyes as to just how much people appreciate our help in this way during their times of difficulty. One particular mother was so touched she became very emotional over the phone and began to explain everything that her family had been through, and how much it meant to her and her kids that they will still be able to go to camp and get away from everything that had been happening at home. I think it is an amazing thing to be a part of providing a fun, positive, safe and supportive environment for kids to learn about the love of Christ, and I continue to see examples of how this ministry blesses children, teens and families all over Victoria. Ash Denham “CYC’s commitment to mission in 2013 included the enabling of dozens of children from the Bangkok slums to attend camps run by a mission headed -up by past CYC leaders, & fund several hundred Indian children ‘to camp’ via a program operated by Christian Camping international” CYC Ltd 1775 Phillip Island Rd Cowes Victoria 3922 www.cyc.org.au In The Next Issue 1. The next chapter of CYC’s history Story #10 Testimony Night - hearing that around half of them can accredit their faith journey to their involvement with our camps over the years is encouraging. It was also great to hear that a few of them also credited a number of the CYC Ministries team to having a huge impact on them with their spiritual journeys. Having two of the 16 LIT's being kids I had on CYC’s Impact Camp’s back when they were only 8 years old, and now having the opportunity to help train and develop them was awesome. It is nice to be involved in the cycle of Leadership where kids are being impacted by the leaders on camp, are then aspiring to be like the leaders they had, and are now receiving training in order to invest back into the younger generation.
