The AIARE 1 is a 3 day/24 hour
introduction to avalanche hazard
managment.
Students can expect to develop a good grounding in how to prepare for and carry out a trip, to understand basic decision making while in the field, and to learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person (if an avalanche occurs and someone in the party is caught).
At the end of the Level One course the student should be able to:
Plan and prepare for travel in avalanche terrain.
Recognize avalanche terrain.
Describe a basic framework for making decisions in avalanche terrain.
Learn and apply effective companion rescue.
Students must be able to travel in avalanche terrain. Specifically, climb on skis and skins 1600’ vertical feet in 2 hours carrying personal equipment for the day above elevations of 8,000’.
Avalanche Rescue – Prerequisite: Level 1

Avalanche Rescue is a one-day / 8 hour course that builds from the fundamentals of companion rescue introduced in Level 1 Avalanche Training. Avalanche Rescue is a big picture approach to the management of an avalanche burial. This course provides an opportunity for students to develop skills in leadership, scene management and patient care. Avalanche Rescue is a perquisite for Level 2 and Pro 1 Avalanche Training. Prerequisite: Level 1 Avalanche Training or Equivalent
