SWG CONSTRUCTION- DOLFEURIG ADULT LEARNING CENTRE

SWG Construction is delivering a new purpose-built Adult Learning Centre in Dolgellau, creating a modern facility designed to support adults with learning disabilities while providing flexible space for the wider community.
A significant investment in adult learning and community support is taking shape in Dolgellau, where SWG Construction is building a new Adult Learning Centre on the site of the existing Canolfan Dolfeurig. Commissioned by Gwynedd Council, the £ 4 million development has been designed to replace ageing facilities with a contemporary centre focused on learning, wellbeing and independence.
Canolfan Dolfeurig has long provided day opportunities and support for adults with learning disabilities across the Meirionnydd area. The new building has been planned to continue that role while introducing modern accommodation better suited to current teaching methods, vocational activities and community use.
Rather than relocating services elsewhere, the decision was taken to redevelop the existing site in Baker Street. The replacement building has been designed to create a more accessible environment, with flexible learning areas, improved support facilities and spaces that encourage greater independence for those using the centre.
SWG Construction secured the design and build contract following a competitive procurement process, with construction commencing in April 2025. According to Construction Map, the programme is scheduled to run until May 2026.
The project reflects SWG Construction’ s growing portfolio within the education and community sectors. Operating across Wales and the West Midlands, the contractor has developed experience delivering projects that remain closely connected to local communities, particularly where construction takes place alongside live services or occupied sites.
As work has progressed, the structure has begun to emerge as a prominent new addition to Dolgellau. Recent site updates have shown the building envelope advancing steadily, with external works and structural elements becoming increasingly visible as the project moves through the main construction phase.
The redevelopment extends beyond the building itself. Gwynedd Council has confirmed that the new centre will support a broader vision for adult services by creating opportunities for learning, training, social interaction and wellbeing within a single location. The facility is also intended to become a valuable community resource for the wider area.
Delivering the project has required careful planning to ensure continuity of services while construction progresses. The phased programme has allowed the replacement facility to be developed while maintaining support for
