Sustainability and gender-neutral design are key drivers of the project. The fire station is being developed as an all-electric and solar-enabled facility, contributing to Surrey County Council’ s net-zero ambitions. The genderneutral layout of facilities such as changing rooms and accommodation acknowledges the need for an inclusive workforce framework.
Once complete, the new Reigate Fire Station will provide modern, efficient accommodation for Surrey Fire & Rescue Service and the South East Coast Ambulance Service. The design focuses on supporting staff wellbeing, promoting inclusivity, and ensuring the facility operates with minimal environmental impact. By combining operational efficiency with long-term sustainability, the project represents an investment in community safety and responsible public infrastructure.
From a delivery standpoint, Neilcott Construction is coordinating the demolition and build works in a live environment, with the fire station’ s crews remaining on site during initial phases to ensure continuity of service.
Situated on a strategically located campus of emergency services, the site presents complexities involving utilities integration, vehicle circulation and operational access. The design team led by Pick Everard brings expertise in blue-light projects, and its role includes architectural, structural and services design up to RIBA Stage 3, together with technical advisory support through subsequent stages.
The project commenced in late 2024, with build phases under way in 2025 and handover scheduled for 2026. The delivery model supports phased transition, allowing the fire station to remain operational throughout.
