KROL CORLETT- BRINDLEY THEATRE EXTENSION

Krol Corlett has completed a major extension and refurbishment project at The Brindley Theatre in Runcorn, expanding the venue’ s cultural facilities and improving accessibility, performance and visitor experience.
The Brindley Theatre in Runcorn has undergone a significant redevelopment programme delivered by Krol Corlett, extending and modernising the popular arts venue as part of wider investment in cultural infrastructure within Halton. The completed scheme has increased the theatre’ s operational capacity while enhancing facilities for performers, audiences and community users.
Owned and operated by Halton Borough Council, The Brindley Theatre first opened in 2004 and has become an established venue for theatre, music, comedy, dance and community events across the region. The extension project was developed to address increasing demand for performance and event space while improving the overall functionality of the building.
Krol Corlett was appointed to deliver the construction programme, which included a substantial extension alongside refurbishment works to existing areas of the theatre. The scheme introduced new front-of-house accommodation, expanded hospitality and event facilities and upgraded internal circulation areas designed to improve visitor movement throughout the venue.
A major feature of the redevelopment is the addition of a new events and function space capable of supporting conferences, performances, weddings and community activities. The expanded facilities provide increased flexibility for the theatre’ s programming and commercial operations, helping diversify the building’ s use beyond traditional stage productions.
Internal refurbishment works included upgrades to audience facilities, back-of-house areas and accessibility measures throughout the venue. Improvements were made to entrances, lifts and circulation routes to ensure enhanced accessibility for visitors and performers. New finishes, lighting and interior enhancements were also incorporated as part of the wider modernisation programme.
The extension was designed to integrate with the existing theatre building while maintaining operational continuity during phases of the construction programme. Careful sequencing and site management enabled the venue to continue hosting performances and public events throughout portions of the works.
