28 MADEIRA TERRACE RESTORATION
the environmental impact associated with manufacturing replacement materials. The project team has described this approach as central to preserving the character and authenticity of the historic structure.
Specialist foundries and conservation engineers are involved in repairing decorative cast iron features, including balustrades and ornamental details depicting marine and mythological motifs. The restoration process requires each structural and decorative element to be catalogued, assessed and repaired individually before reinstallation.
The Madeira Terrace restoration forms part of wider regeneration ambitions for Brighton’ s eastern seafront, linking heritage conservation with public realm improvements, tourism and accessibility upgrades. Once completed, the restored section will reopen a significant stretch of promenade space currently inaccessible to residents and visitors.
Construction remains ongoing, with the first restored phase currently targeted for completion during 2026, subject to continued structural testing and conservation works. The project represents one of the most technically complex heritage restoration schemes currently underway on the south coast, combining structural engineering, conservation craftsmanship and modern accessibility infrastructure within a nationally significant historic landmark.
