OMAGH HOSPITAL - SHELL SPACE PROJECT
The Omagh Hospital Shell Space project has been recognised with a nomination for Health Project of the Year at the prestigious CEF Awards .
The project , led by Main Contractor , Mannings , involved the refurbishment and fit-out of the Omagh Hospital Primary Care Complex , transforming shell spaces into fully functional clinical facilities , consultation rooms , storage areas , and circulation spaces — all while working within an operational hospital environment .
Appointed by the Western Health and Social Care Trust , the Company successfully delivered a wide range of new clinical and support spaces designed to enhance the hospital ’ s capacity to provide top-tier healthcare services .
The project ’ s scope included clinical facilities and consultation rooms ; new storage areas and circulation spaces ; installation of partitions and firewalls ; comprehensive mechanical and electrical services installations , including new ventilation systems , CCTV , and a nurse call system ; joinery work , including fire doors and all finishing touches ; and new ceilings , flooring , and decorations throughout the refurbished areas .
The project was completed under the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract , with Mannings responsible for planning , managing , and coordinating the entire construction phase .
One of the key challenges of the Omagh Hospital Shell Space Project was ensuring that all refurbishment works were carried out safely and efficiently in an operational hospital environment .
Mannings collaborated closely with key stakeholders , including the Western Trust Project Manager and the Client ’ s Principal Designer , to manage health and safety risks effectively and minimise disruptions to hospital staff , patients , and the public .
The team ’ s meticulous planning and commitment to health and safety ensured that the project was executed without compromising the hospital ’ s daily operations . This included maintaining clear communication with all involved parties and using advanced risk management strategies to navigate the complexities of working in a live healthcare setting .
