A development consisting of new apartments from Arbour Housing will revitalise the site of the former Ogle House in Newry .
Nestled in the heart of Newry , Ogle House on Canal Street blends modern design with historical charm , offering residents a vibrant lifestyle .
Delivered by Main Contractor , Finnegan Contracts , the new Ogle House is a development of apartments , consisting of eight two-bedroom units and one single bedroom home and is one of several projects ongoing in the Canal Street , Merchants Quay area of the city .
These will be located across five levels – the existing threestoreys and the basement and attic space . There would be four at each level and one in the attic .
All residential units within the development will be for social housing .
The original Ogle House was a three-storey Victorian residence – including an attic and basement – and was built around the mid-1800s . It was bought around 1855 as a temporary convent for the Sisters of Mercy .
However , it has deteriorated over the passing years , leaving the property structurally unsound and financially unviable to renovate .
Planning Permission for the project was applied for back in October 2019 and granted in May 2020 .
