WELLINGTON COLLEGE - RAGLAN HOUSE 77

WELLINGTON COLLEGE - RAGLAN HOUSE

Founded in 1853 by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert , Wellington College is a place like no other . The College aims to provide an ambitious and aspirational environment in which the potential of each pupil is identified and developed .
Wellington is blessed with an enviable location , beautiful campus and astonishing facilities , so everything is in place for our pupils to thrive and the creation of Raglan House marks a new chapter in the institution ’ s storied history , reinforcing its standing as a beacon of academic excellence and innovation .
The project itself consisted of a new Woodland Quad comprising of three new buildings on the Wellington College campus – Raglan House , Victoria House – a 70 en-suite bedroom boarding accommodation and Energy Centre .
The Raglan is a day house , located near the main entrance to the school and is open from 7am-9pm , allowing students to fully involve themselves in life at Wellington .
Raglan students contribute widely demonstrating interest and excellence in sport , debating , music , acting and dance , charity and service , as well as the high academic standards the students set for themselves .
The house is a welcoming base , with an open common room downstairs , study rooms for groups of six to ten students upstairs , and outdoor space for table tennis and football .
These students receive support from a combination of excellent tutors , the matron and housekeeper .
The Raglan is a base for 79 students . This size brings a great diversity of students from many cultures though they share a strong collective spirit .
The architectural significance of Raglan House is underscored by its sustainability features , including energyefficient lighting , green spaces , and environmentally conscious design elements .
Heating is provided by a combination of low temperature radiators and underfloor heating with the hot water generated locally from heat interface units to negate any issues with hot water storage , scalding and potential legionella .
The building reflects Wellington College ’ s dedication to promoting environmental stewardship and creating a campus that aligns with contemporary standards of sustainability .
Raglan House is not just the introduction of a new building but a celebration of Wellington College ’ s commitment to providing a world-class educational experience for its students .
