The recent extension of the Stratford greenway from Fernleigh Park means residents can enjoy a five-mile traffic free route from their doorstep right into the heart of Stratford-Upon-Avon .
This charming route takes you through the countryside taking in beautiful scenery , landscape and connecting you with nature .
Fringed by trees , the greenway is a suitable path for cyclists , walkers , families and wheelchair users . It ’ s a way to take in some beautiful scenery , landscape , nature and heritage along the way .
Following the course of the old Honeybourne railway line ; a single-track railway built in 1859 , this traffic free route runs through the peaceful countryside of Long Marston , crossing the River Avon using Stannals bridge , past the racecourse and right into the heart of Stratford .
The greenway also provides a corridor welcoming a variety of wildlife and providing a safe path across the five-mile stretch . The sustainable landscaping has allowed for habitats to remain – plus the National Biodiversity Network Gateway records many protected species within two km either side of the Greenway such as the common lizard , adder , water vole and ten species of bats .
Visitors will find plenty of activities to do , including hiring bikes via Stratford cycle hire , playparks , picnic areas , and two cafes along the way - Milcote Cafe and Bobby ’ s , both converted into characterful train carriages .
Fernleigh Park has a key role to play in helping to secure the long-term sustainability of the region . It marks the first phase in what will hopefully be a wider masterplan of some
