Canary Wharf ’ s new neighbourhood , Wood Wharf , Wharf designed by Allies and Morrison and Glenn Howells Architects creates a strong and complementary mix of uses , providing up to 3,600 new homes , 2 million sq ft of highquality commercial office space , and a further 550,000 sq ft of shops , restaurants and community uses . There will also be a GP surgery and a school .
The development of Wood Wharf will broaden and extend the Canary Wharf Estate , adding to its vibrancy and continually expanding cultural , community and commercial offer .
HTA Design LLP designed a group of buildings which will sit at the heart of the emerging Wood Wharf Masterplan . Wood Wharf ’ s new Central zone is its primary destination and has been developed along a ‘ lanes ’ concept , providing tight , car free streets lined with boutique shops , pocket parks and eateries .
HTA-designed Plots G1 and G5 form a large part of this zone , composed of two major buildings and three pavilions which reflect the area ’ s naval past . The design mirrors the once-lost warehouse architecture which sat on the site ; reinstating an important part of the Wharf ’ s heritage and character .
The site represents one of central London ’ s largest privately owned development sites , extending to 23 acres and is recognised as being of major international importance on a local , national and international level .
