BARNFIELD CONSTRUCTION - NEWTOWN MILL
Based in the North West of England , Barnfield Construction offer honest , thought through and practical solutions to a diverse array of new and refurbishment building contracts ranging from industrial , commercial , retail , leisure & hospitality and residential schemes .
Newtown Mill is a joint venture project between Barnfield Developments and Burnley Council and will provide UCLan with a further 35,000 sq ft of teaching space , with the aim to encourage young people and raise aspirations within the town .
The site will provide a state-of-the-art building with inspirational heritage features , high-quality teaching rooms , student social space and a business and public engagement area .
This is the third project within On the Banks that the joint venture has worked on with UCLan following the creation of a new campus library and Student Union space in the nearby Sandygate Mill .
Located within a conservation area , much of the building has been retained and sympathetically restored to preserve its heritage .
Professor Graham Baldwin , Vice-Chancellor of the University of Central Lancashire ( UCLan ), said : “ This is another pivotal and exciting development in our ongoing plans to raise young people ’ s aspirations in the area , respond to local employers ’ skills needs and support the regeneration of Burnley . We are grateful for the support from the Levelling-Up Fund and the backing from key partners .
“ Together with Sandygate Halls , our first student halls of residence , Burnley is rapidly establishing itself as an attractive canal side campus . It will mark another key milestone in the drive to transform Burnley into a university town and part of UCLan ’ s ambitious plans to increase student numbers to 4,000 .
“ Newtown Mill aims to build on our employer engagement strategy so local companies benefit from degree apprenticeship courses in areas such as digital , cyber , engineering and management .”
