“ I found a guy called Ian Roberts, the owner of BAR Fabrications in Rotherham and he was willing to do all the chassis strengthening for me.”
With all the strengthening in place it was time to get cutting, but Steve fancied a practice go before hacking at his pride and joy. He was helped out by Graham at Autoworld, Leeds. As a dismantler of 300GTs, and GTOs he had a few scrap shells around that he allowed Steve to practice the cuts on.
With the practice over it was time to tackle his car’s roof removal. It went grand and the Hulk car was soon topless. With no roof on the car, cutting it off seemed like the easiest bit. Now he had to find a way of fitting a soft top on.
Due to its unique shape finding a roof from another car to fit would be impossible. He started with the roof frame for a Corvette C4 hoping it could be adjusted to fit. Unfortunately all he could salvage from the Corvette roof was the rafters and the clamps to attach the roof to the windscreen. .From there angle iron was used to create the rest of the frame. With all the structural work done, the roof was wrapped in mo-hare by Auto Trimmers Bielawski’s of Sheffield.
