How long does your process last from start to finish?
For the big wooden lures it takes a while because the build is done in stages. I will cut and carve the lure first this may take an hour to days. Depending on the build The Lexan bill and weight are added next after sealing the lure. The painting may take ½ to 1 hour from start to finish but I’ m never in a rush. I will do at least 3 Finnish coats of clear topcoat epoxy. The epoxy will take no less than 3 days from start to finish. Without all of the down time in between the stages of the build I would probably say for a large lure I have approximately 3 to 5 hours involved. I do at least 3 at a time when doing the large builds. Small resin cast lures I can do in about 1 or 2 hours including casting the lure, painting and finish coats.
What aspect of your process do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy the building a lot but the artwork is the most relaxing part of the build. I love to paint. I love to try new patterns and different blends of paint. I enjoy doing a realistic pattern but also like to do colorful off the wall color combinations just to see how they will turn out.
How long did it take you to master the process?
Each build has been a different learning process. After a couple of builds I am very confident. There is always something to learn.
