At over 200 miles of mapped and surveyed passages , this beautiful underground resource offers an assortment of intriguing and colorful cave formations . Four different cave tours / activities are available , ranging from a 20-minute Discovery Talk to a three to four-hour Wild Caving experience . Combined with an engaging Junior Ranger and Pee Wee Ranger Program , as well as interpretive patio talks , nature hikes , and occasional special events , most visitors will be able to find something of interest on the surface or sub-surface . Advanced reservations are only available for Scenic Tours and can be made 48 hours before your visit or up to 90-days in advance . During the late spring , summer and fall seasons , cave tours often fill to capacity . For this reason , reservations are highly recommended and can be made by visiting the monument online at www . nps . gov / jeca / planyourvisit / permitsandreservations . htm . Tickets for same day tours are also available on-site ; however , please be advised that same day tickets often sell out by late morning .
