O
h, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
my name is Victory,”
can still be heard on
Sunday mornings sung
by choirs, groups, & praise teams
across the country five (5) years
later after its initial 2008 release.
Some music is considered a time-
less classic & lives on well beyond
its normal life expectancy, which is
the case for many of the hit songs
written by Stellar Award winner,
Jonathan Nelson.
Nelson has made an indelible
impression in gospel music with
various hits that he has written
not only for himself & his group
Purpose, but also for other gospel
artists as well. His first recogni-
tion received was when the Stellar
Awards crowned him Songwriter
of the Year in 2006 for his hit song,
“Healed,” which was recorded by
Donald Lawrence. Nelson has also
penned songs for JJ Hairston &
Youthful Praise, Maurette Brown-
Clark, DeWayne Woods, & Bishop
T.D. Jakes & The Potter’s House
Choir to name a few.

No stranger to the church or music
arena, Jonathan who is the son of
a well-renowned pastor is consid-
ered a leader in praise & worship
music based on his catalog of songs
coupled with the delivery of their
message that uplifts, encourages, &
inspires. With three (3) cds under
his belt, “Everything You Are: Live
in Baltimore” released 2003, “Right
Now Praise” released 2008, &
“Better Days” released 2010, Nelson
released his fourth (4th) cd this
year, titled “Finish Strong,” which
includes a remix of his hit song “My
Name is Victory.”
This latest release from Nelson
offers a variety of music, much of
which he co-wrote. The title cut
“Finish Strong,” encourages the
listener that having strong faith will
result in a strong finish regardless
of what it is he/she may face. The
best part of the song is the catchy
chant, “strong finish, strong finish,
strong finish.” This song definite-
ly sounds like another hit for this
multiple award winning artist &
songwriter.
This project is no different from any
of Nelson’s earlier releases due to it
containing several stand out tunes
that are guaranteed to be heard on
Sunday morning & at various musi-
cals or concerts. Track 13, “Free” is
a feel-good, up tempo song featur-
ing his niece Jade Milan Nelson
shows why we’ve come to love the
various artists in the Nelson fami-
ly, such as Jonathan’s twin brother
Jason Nelson.
With his ability to create, write, &
minister songs that can be sung
by anyone, anywhere at any given
time, “Finish Strong” will not only
be the title of his 4th cd release,
but it will be the testament to the
successful music career of Jonathan
Nelson.
