The school was officially opened by Mr Fergus Sampson and Dr Gcina Mhlophe (guest speaker) on Friday, 11 May 2018.
Mamelodi is grateful to every one for their contribution in the success of this beautiful school.
CURRO
Primary school learners and teachers had a colourful run,
painting themselves and Soshanguve streets in different
colours to celebrate diversity in the school.
ACADEMY
SOSHANGUVE
Everyone started white as snow, but at the end they all
turned colourful, happy, refreshed and excited. Teachers
enjoyed it almost more than the children!

#positive vibes
In celebration of Youth Day, teachers tapped into the youth by wearing school uniform to class.
Celebrating their
ACADEMY heritage in style
SANDOWN
In celebration of Women’s Day all female staff were dressed in their headcloths to show the power a woman has.
Heritage Day was celebrated in style at Curro Academy
Sandown, ‘braaivleis’ and all.
Charisse le Roux, Executive Head, declared 20 September
2018 ‘braai day’ at school and for one day, academics was
not on the cards.
Jessica Johnson (Grade 1) in traditional attire
This will be a permanent fixture on the school’s annual
calendar as learners, staff and parents need to always
remember where their roots are, where they have come from and how this nation has changed through the years.
Learners were encouraged to come to school dressed up in national attire from their own heritage and the rainbow of
different outfits and costumes was alluring, showing off the Curro Academy Sandown community as one of great diversity.
The smell of boerewors braaiing on the coals and the sound of music on the sports field enticed staff to put down all work
and join the fun. Learners with big smiles and many stories returned home to end the school term the next day.
Admit one
It was the last day of school and what better way to
spend this day than with popcorn and a movie. As part
of its annual list of big events, Curro Academy Sandown
held its first movie night on 21 September.
The hall was transformed into a cinema with a big
screen, movie posters, and popcorn and cold drinks on
sale. Learners arrived with their pillows and blankets,
with much excitement – some in their pyjamas. Votes
for the movie title were casted in the week prior to the
event and the clear winner was Paddington 2.
The idea of movie night was for each learner to spend
time at school on a Friday evening, but to bring along a
friend from outside the school. Parents could drop off
their children and take a few hours off, chill for a while
without children or perhaps even have a mini date
night. Some parents left their children on their own for
the very first time, and some even decided to stay and
watch the movie from a distance. As the evening ended,
staff bid learners farewell for the October holidays.
