Curro cares
Curro cares consists of a group of learners who care about the well-being of society. They volunteer
their time and resources to assist those less fortunate.
On 30 July 2018 nineteen Curro cares volunteers went to CDR Equipping Ministries in Muldersdrift
and spent two hours of their time enjoying games and activities with the nursery school children from
the organisation’s prep school. The volunteers went bearing gifts which they had collected with the
help of their schoolmates. The learners collected cans of non-perishable food items and socks as part
of the Nelson Mandela centenary drive.

Lenten food drive
The high school embarked on the annual Lenten food drive where a whopping 800 non-perishable
items were donated by families at Meridian Pinehurst.
The donation was made to Bright Stars in Kraaifontein, who serves about 30 children from birth
to adolescents. They were overwhelmed with joy and were very appreciative of the contribution.

Pack-a-sack for the hospice
From August to September the school collected donations of previously loved clothing, shoes, linen,
books, toys and non-perishable food.
The hospice was informed to collect the donations on Monday, 17 September and with the excellent
support of teachers, parents and learners, Meridian Rustenburg handed over 70 bags.

NORTHERN
ACADEMY
In 2018, the school of choice
was Mpumulanga Senior Secondary School in Tzaneen. The
learners, once again, collected over 500 packets of disposable
sanitary products and secured corporate sponsorship to the
value of R26 000 for panties and other reusable sanitary
products. The total amount of girls reached, was 250.
Meridian Northern Academy invited a local young businessman
to give a motivational talk to the girls as the idea is to take the
focus away from their menstrual cycles (which are inevitable)
and place some much needed attention on empowering them
as young ladies.

Helping a sister in need
A few learners of Meridian Northern
Academy, accompanied by Makhanani
Chabalala, started an initiative in 2017
called ‘help me help a fellow sister in
need’ to collect sanitary products for
underprivileged girls in Limpopo.
