PINEHURST
Book character parade
This is the one one not-to-be-missed event of the year. The character parade is the highlight of the
book week that allows staff and learners to have some fun and dress up as their favourite book
character. This year Pinehurst included the nursery school kids who hosted their parade on the
playground.
The Grade R teachers and assistants
were dressed up as crayons.

Grade 2: Esio Trot (3D art), The Lorax (2D art)

The exhibition also showcased art pieces from the Grades
2 and 3 art clubs. The art clubs challenged themselves
and created mosaic items, like pot plants and photo
frames. The exhibition spanned over two days to ensure
that all had an opportunity to enjoy the artworks.
On 7 May 2018, Golebogarona Senosi (Grade 11) and
his fellow Meridians departed for Curro Klerksdorp for
the Curro Arts Superheroes (CAS) competition. He
had put in a lot of time in preparing for this day. On
arrival all the participating learners were directed to
a large classroom where they were allocated to the
‘stations’ – dancers to one room, singers to another,
etc. Golebogarona was participating in the visual arts
category. Imagine his surprise when, standing with his
blank canvas, he was advised that the participants of
the visual arts category were supposed to bring along
completed works!
Fortunately, after realising how far he had come and
making the decision to stay the course, he decided
to paint his artwork then and there from scratch.
He spent two hours working on the painting of
a singer whose music he admires. Under these
stressful conditions, Golebogarona held his head
high and painted with confidence.
Meridian Pinehurst hosted their second consecutive
foundation phase art exhibition. It consisted of 1 288
pieces of art. The theme was ‘books, books and more
books!’ Each grade’s artwork was based on a specific
book.

RUSTENBURG
In the end, the judges were so impressed with
his work of art that he was awarded a kryptonite
award, which is the highest award received in
the CAS competition. Fellow learners had won
some silver and bronze certificates and they
were all thrilled with their achievements.
In the end, Golebogarona was very proud to
represent Meridian Rustenburg and learned
that even in the toughest situations, he should
never doubt himself and always do his best in everything.

M-Factor
In light of the water restrictions this
year, the school was unable to host
their annual colour run. Instead,
they hosted the M-Factor, a talent
show for learners from Grades 4
to 12. Hundreds of entries were
received, but only 18 contestants
made it through to the finals. The
contestants were phenomenal in
their performances, which made
it difficult for the judges to decide
on a winner. Kristen Jacobs and
Stefani Bochnakov walked away
with a beautiful trophy, sponsored
by the Pinehurst Centre and, of
course, bragging rights.
