Some recent studies into the

professionalism within FE have been

conducted by Ann Hodgson and Ken

Spours for the Institue of Education. one area of reform they reference is: An expansive professionalism. They write, 'A richer upper secondary curriculum and greater partnership working will require a more ambitious teacher and lecturer professionalism. This could be characterised as ‘triple professionalism’ in which the educator develops three dimensions of expertise – a strong understanding of a specialist area of knowledge and skill; high levels of competence in teaching and support of the learner; and a willingness and capacity to work across and beyond traditional subject and institutional boundaries' (Hodgson, A and Spours, K, 2014).
