ACADEMIC MASTERY SKILLS COURSE :
This course is one semester long and available to Grade 10 and 11 only .
230 | MASTERY SKILLS
This course will emphasize ACT and SAT test-taking strategies , specifically math skills , language skills , reading skills , and science-reasoning skills . Students will study and practice listening and note taking techniques , test taking strategies , questioning and thinking skills , information retrieval , pre-ACT and PSAT test practice , memory technique , reading in the content areas , vocabulary development , with the central goal to increase both subtest scores and composite scores . All four ACT subtests will be reviewed : English , Math , Reading , and Science Reasoning .
ART COURSES :
All Art courses are now one semester long to allow greater flexibility in scheduling .
751 | INTRO TO STUDIO ART
This foundation course is designed to introduce students to the visual arts , including the following areas of study :
• Fine Art ( Drawing and Painting )
• Two-Dimensional Design ( Commercial Art , Basic Illustration , Typography )
• Three Dimensional Design ( Sculpture , Book Arts ) Students in this course are introduced to the basic elements and principles of design , color theory , and the design process through drawing , painting and other mediums . Students learn the concepts common to all the visual arts including line , shape , value , texture , color , space , and form .
! Course fulfills Visual and Performing Arts requirement .
752 | 3-D DESIGN
Prerequisite : Intro to Studio Art
Students will further their study in three dimensional visual art by exploring structures from a variety of materials , including but not limited to paper , cardboard , wire , wood , and possibly clay . Students will explore relief sculpture , sculpture in the round , as well as hanging forms , and navigate the engineering challenges that are associated with them .
! Course fulfills Visual and Performing Arts requirement .
758 | ADVANCED 3-D DESIGN
Prerequisite : 3-D Design
Advanced projects in 3-D Art and Design . Students will continue to experiment with a variety of mediums such as paper , cardboard , wire , wood , and possibly clay . Design topics of discovery include architecture , fine art , furniture , and product design .
