and 300 in the other. They plan on
four to eight showings a day. Tickets
will be available at www.zeise.de.
The idea is to show for three months
until the regular cinemas reopen
and the nice summer weather has
changed for the worse.
Regular indoor Hamburg cinemas
are predicted to return to “normal”
business on July 2, along with the
opera and theaters. This will be
under strict conditions: tickets to be
sold online, viewers to sit separated
by empty seats and rows, allowing
only about a fourth of the normal
attendance.
Drive-ins were always a part of my
life when growing up. I still visualize
myself in 1958, hugging and kissing
my boyfriend in his car at the Silver
Star Drive-in, right off Highway 63
near Kirksville, Missouri, USA, while
pretending to watch Cat on a Hot Tin
Roof, starring Elizabeth Taylor.

64th BFI London
Film Festival

Is it or isn‘t it? Will it or won‘t it?
Questions that we are currently
asking ourselves daily. At the time
of writing, the official line is that the
London Film Festival will still take
place but in a modified format. My
official statement is yes, I will attend
whatever that modified format
looks like. As there has always been
a large online streaming service for
accredited attendees, I am hopeful
that this will be the basic offer and
give some amazing film screenings.
What we will see in October is
another matter. Again, as of today,
they are still accepting submissions.
The films on offer are entirely
dependent on what changes and
what initiatives the film industry
as a whole can make between now
and then.
The British Film Institute is fully
supporting and encouraging the
film industry and, as such, they
will be part of We Are One: a Global
Film Festival, that will be hosted by
YouTube from May 29. This will be
a 10-day digital program to help
raise funds for the World Health
Organization (WHO)‘s COVID-19
Solidarity Response Fund. Film
festivals from around the world are
involved, including BFI London Film
Festival, Berlin International Film
Festival, Jerusalem Film Festival,
Mumbai Film Festival, Marrakech
International Film Festival, Sundance
Film Festival, and Tribeca
Film Festival.
I look forward to these 10 days and,
as is now the norm, I shall wait and
see what happens in October.
