Upcoming Actions:
EARTH HOUR
Saturday March 28
20:30–21:30
Started by WWF
and partners as a symbolic
lights—out event in Sydney in
2007, Earth Hour is now one of the
world’s largest grassroots move-
ments for the environment and en-
gages millions of people in more
than 180 countries and territories,
to switch off their lights to show
support for our planet.
Today, Earth Hour aims to spark
global conversations on protect-
ing nature not only to combat the
climate crisis, but to ensure our
own health, happiness, prosperity
and even survival.
Earth Day
Earth Day was a unified response to
an environment in crisis — oil spills,
smog, rivers so polluted they literally
caught fire. On April 22, 1970, 20
million Americans took to the streets,
college campuses and hundreds
of cities to protest environmental
ignorance and demand a new way
forward for our planet.
The first Earth Day launched a wave
of action, including the passage of
landmark environmental laws in the
United States. The Clean Air, Clean
Water and Endangered Species Acts
were created in response to the first
Earth Day, as well as the creation of
the Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA). Many countries soon adopted
similar laws.
Earth Day continues to hold major
international significance: In 2016,
the United Nations chose Earth Day
as the day when the historic Paris
Agreement on climate change was
signed into force.
What you can do:
Switch off your lights for an
HOUR!
Make your voice heard and sign
the “Voice for the Planet” pledge.
The Voice petition will be present-
ed during key global conferences
in 2020. Live more sustainably:
change what you eat and buy,
change to clean energy, ask the
business you buy from to change,
explore and restore Nature locally.
With your support,
we can speak up and show world
leaders and other decision—mak-
ers around the globe that nature
matters and urgent action must
be taken to reverse nature loss.
