Currents October 2018 3 Choices A s Florida races toward the 2018 mid-term elections Currents has some thoughts on the Governorship race. The United States is experi- encing a collective de ja vu event in that the cultural calendar has been turned back to 1968. Currents has written in the past about swings in the zeitgeist, most notably the extreme swing expected after the Supreme Court decision on marriage equality. Few people predicted the swing would produce such a severe chasm in the cultural bedrock resulting in open social warfare. America’s only two political parties have long been effective only in raising money and propa- gating their positions as corporate lackeys, have degenerated into status quo defenders. For 2018, the choices are clearly delineated along party lines, although what “party lines” means is open to debate as the parties have split into extreme camps. Florida and the country face choices that will again define the future for millions of citizens and either brighten the “shinning city on a hill” or dim its hope to citi- zens around the globe. The Left is moving toward the future promised by Star Trek and the Right is pushing toward the future of movie Interstellar. One bleak future filled with climate driven immigration wars and the other a bright future drive toward global acceptance of all Earth- lings, each deserving of access to planetary resources.
