Currents May 2019 3 Duplicity & Illusion I n a world where priests and nuns can be aggressive pedophiles with impunity and the federal government separates families and fails to record the family information and elected officials can use inside informa- tion to create wealth while in office, it is difficult to take any political message to heart, as all of them must be prejudged as disingenuous. It certainly makes one understand one of the coun- try’s mottoes - “buyer beware.” It also emphasizes the hypocrisy of the Right to Life movement and the poorly effected political party division over the issue. No one, not to mention poor children, is important. Duplicity & Illusion America is marketed as a Mer- itocracy with a Free Market. Where politicians make speeches about how Big Government is Bad - because it allows for gov- ernment officials to “choose win- ners and losers in a free market.” Absurd. Gain and Choices Elected and non-elected offi- cials make daily choices that pick marketplace winners and losers, by legislation supporting tax credits and rebates, one industry is supported over another. When the Pentagon ends support for weapons and programs and con- gress decides to maintain or increase support for same. Net Neutrality is supported by con- gress, but overturned by an agency. Recently, congress codified the support of a market over the good of the people, by electing not to streamline the IRS sys- tems to allow the agency to bill you or allow for your info to be only a confirmation of the agency files, the “post card filing” that the GOP markets to the base. Instead, the government decided the jobs, education and software industries far outweigh the benefit to the people and basically outlawed the streamlin- ing of the process. Thus ensur- ing the moneyed support from the industry and lobbyists. Congressional insiders are able to adjust their stock and investment portfolios well in advance of their voting on the legislative disposition. Elected members of congress are immune from many laws, including insider trading. Indeed, that was true until the Stock Act of 2012, which restricts profit from information about “ONGO- ING LEGISLATION” which is nar- rowly defined. continued on page 5 > S TOP Y OUR W INDOW L EAK P ROBLEMS Be Hu Prepa re rr Fi x you icane d for t r W Sea he NO indow son W!
