An anti-semitism bill passed two days after the
shooting in a California Synagogue. The bill pro-
hibits anti-semitism in Florida’s public schools and
universities. The bill requires that discrimination
against Jewish people be treated the same as acts
of racial discrimination in public schools. The bill
includes an extensive definition of anti-semitism
which includes speech that makes dehumanizing or
sterotypical allegations about the Jewish
community. The definition also includes expressing
hatred for Jews, calling for the killing or harming of a
Jewish person, criticizing the collective power of the
Jewish community or accusing Jewish people or
Israel of inventing or exaggerating the Holocaust.
On budget issues, the Legislature agreed to fund
$50 million to keep the tourist agency, Visit Florida, in
operation until 6/30/2020. $40 million was also bud-
geted toward the Job Growth Grant fund, which is
used to pay for infrastructure and job training proj-
ects. There will be a $35 million cut in base funding
