La Grande Arche Paris Style In Future Tense
From the top of Paris ' best-known arch, the Arc de Triomphe( up 284 steps), one can glimpse its modern counterpart three miles away. At Paris ' western boundary, in the mini-Manhattan called La Défense, is La Grande Arche( see photo).
The Arche is centerpiece to a knot of futuristic skyscrapers, the largest office complex in Europe. The architectural divorce from the past is all the more stunning when juxtaposed against Paris ' ancient buildings. In fact, the Gothic gem of Notre- Dame could fit within the opening of the Arche.
