La Grande Arche Paris Style In Future Tense
From the top of Paris ' best-known arch , the Arc de Triomphe ( up 284 steps ), one can glimpse its modern counterpart three miles away . At Paris ' western boundary , in the mini-Manhattan called La Défense , is La Grande Arche ( see photo ).
The Arche is centerpiece to a knot of futuristic skyscrapers , the largest office complex in Europe . The architectural divorce from the past is all the more stunning when juxtaposed against Paris ' ancient buildings . In fact , the Gothic gem of Notre- Dame could fit within the opening of the Arche .
