Currents June 2017 3 Sessions End T he legislative session is concluding at this writing and Governor Scott is supposedly sharpening his veto pen to do his part in pork reduction. And like usual, there will need to be a spe- cial session. Typically, Scott supporters and special interest lobbyists support specific cuts, this year is no differ- ent. Conservative newspapers are supporting a complete veto of the entire budget. This posi- tion is supported in principal by most school districts who are unhappy with legislative educa- tion funding levels. Governor Scott is very unhappy with the legislative take on his announced spending prior- ities and he spent lots of taxpayer money traveling the State and other places, to lobby against the politicians in Tallahassee. Yes, you read that right. He was not so much lobbying in support of his policies, as he was posturing and positioning his run against the only Democrat serving Florida's interest and the only Florida politician who isn't blindly sup- porting #45's agenda chaos. Schools are unhappy, Scott is unhappy. Hmm, perhaps the Speaker of the House is on to something. He saved the millions Scott wanted to spend to bring lower paying jobs to the state. No to millions paid to celebrities to bring tourists to the Sunshine State. Home Rule - NOT This year saw one more move to centralize power in Tallahas- see, leaving no one in Govern- ment to oppose their will in so many areas. The next generation of cellu- lar phone bandwidth, 5G can best be implemented by placing hardware, signal regenerating equipment, on utility poles, or other public right-a-ways or structures. “At the end of the day, I want to make sure Florida is ahead of the technology curve,” said Rep. Mike La Rosa, R-St. Cloud. But local governments are pushing back against legislation in the House and Senate that would set statewide rules for wireless carriers on the installa- tion of “small wireless facilities” and take away control from cities and counties on the public place- ment of such facilities. “This language precludes us from enacting any regulations within our rights-of-way for any small cell facilities,” said Eric Poole, a lobbyist for the Florida Association of Counties. continued on page 4 > S TOP Y OUR W INDOW L EAK P ROBLEMS Be P Hu repa rric red Fix you ane for th S r W in eas e NO dow on W!
