He who needs advice most, usually likes it
least.
You've got to do your own growing, no mat
ter how tall your grandfather is.
Civilization is a slow process of learning to be
kind.
Clever people needn't be good, they can
simulate.
A lean compromise is better than a fat law
suit.
A boaster and a liar are cousins.
There are men so conservative they believe
nothing should be done for the first time.
You can't fool all of the people all of the time
but it isn't necessary.
If your desires be endless, your cares will be
so too.
At a round table there's no dispute of place.
No one is a fool always, everyone sometimes.
Horse sense is what keeps horses from
betting on what people will do.
Generosity consists not in the sum given, but
the manner in which it is bestowed.
He who lives on hope has but a slender diet.
Stand still and let the world go by - and it
will.
