In service since 1925 , Mountain Tunnel is a crucial part of our Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System . It transports water from Kirkwood Powerhouse to Priest Reservoir , just north of our historic company town of Moccasin . This winter , we will be enlarging 2 tunnel access points and inspecting the entire length of the 19 mile tunnel ! As part of our work , we will be making improvements to 7200 linear feet of the concrete-lined portion of the tunnel . During our work , the tunnel will not be in service , and we will rely on our local water reservoirs for continued supply . Our investments keep your high-quality tap water flowing 24 / 7 !
