Pompano O n March 13, 2018, voters in the City of Pompano Beach will be asked to consider three local ballot questions approving the issuance of three General Obligation Bonds (G.O. Bonds). These bonds are intended to provide funds to help reduce traffic, improve public safety and beautify our commu- nity’s public spaces and facilities. The City is referring to this initia- tive as “G.O. Pompano!” Here’s a look at some of the key projects designated for funding in “G.O. Pompano!”. 1. Streets, Sidewalks, Bridges and Landscaping Projects - This bond is designed to upgrade streets and bridges at various locations in Pompano Beach and reduce traffic congestion for bet- ter commute and travel times. The measure also makes improvements to landscaping and sidewalks. Improvements include drainage modifications to reduce flooding, moving overhead utili- ties underground to reduce power outages, as well as build- ing new sidewalks and enhanc- ing roadway crossings for safer pedestrian travel. Infrastructure improvements will be made throughout the city. The roads included in the initia- tive are Dixie Highway, McNab Road, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, NE 33rd Street and A1A from Hillsboro Inlet to Terra Mar Drive. Improvements will also be made to the SE 5th Avenue Bridge, the Terra Mar Drive Bridge and in the Collier City and Palm Aire neighbor- hoods. 2. Public Safety Projects - This bond measure proposes improvements to upgrade the Public Safety Complex, and replace emergency operation facilities with a new complex to reduce emergency response times and enhance fire and emer- gency services. Two outdated fire stations that were constructed back in the 1970s will be replaced and a new fire station constructed. Renovations to Ocean Rescue Building and replacement of outdated lifeguard towers are also part of the initia- tive and are designed to improve public safety operations and to make the City’s beaches safer. 3. Parks, Recreation and Leisure Projects - This bond will fund projects in various locations in the City to beautify public areas, add and improve green spaces and enhance recreational parks.
