The Hound of the Baskervilles through January 20
Director Yosefin Buohler constantly ran lines with him . Tripp exceeds expectations . The Saturday / Sunday before dress rehearsals , Glaser and Heiko Böttner ( lighting / sound ) worked ‘ round-the-clock solving the myriad technical issues ; this play has more than 450 cues ! On Sunday , the thespians were added onstage , Monday was the first dress rehearsal , and Thursday the premiere .
Merely three tremendously talented thespians perform the many outlandish characters in this fast-paced , whoop-dedoo production . Actor 3 is the precocious Katherine Rodden , i . e ., Sir Henry and others ; Actor 2 , the imperturbable Benjamin Press , i . e ., Dr . Watson and others ; and Actor 1 , the indomitable Charlie Tripp , i . e ., Sherlock Holmes plus others . Not only is the play ’ s dialogue intense , but it also has lots of physicality — wait ‘ till you see — demanding deftness , agility , skill , and controlled timing . Not to mention Rebecca Delmas , the stage manager , running herself ragged with all the expeditious costume / prop changes . Speaking of which , Glaser ’ s choice of casting Rodders as Sir Henry prompted Patricia Royo ( costume ) to spike her appearance with a comely three-piece suit and stiletto boots .
Playwrights Steven Canny and John Nicholson , co-artistic directors of Peepolykus , wrote this for that UK theater company . Rooted in the physical attributes of classic clowning and comedy , Peepolykus refines its plays from audience feedback . “ Our hope , therefore , was that we ’ d not only make you laugh but also enjoy being in the company of the characters … the physical pace and dexterity of the performers is as important as the pace at which the text is played .”
You ’ ll be , hold onto your seats , accompanying Holmes and Watson during their sleuthing in this thrilling , waggish rendition . Imagine how enthralling that will be ! It ’ s a comically convincing remedy to these short , dark winter days , too . Don ’ t dally in booking your tickets as the sands of time slip by on January 20 .
