A VERY MERRY HOLIDAY PARTY

Festive dress , high spirits , and the warm feeling of a reunion summarizes our Holiday Party , with its combined cultural and culinary program , attended by forty-five AWCH members on December 7 . Preceding the reception and dinner at The Cube , the organizers offered a tour at the Hamburger Kunsthalle . In a brilliant one-hour tour , we skimmed through 700 years of art history , starting with a fourteenth-century altar masterpiece and ending with twentieth-century Expressionist paintings . In keeping with the Christmas season , a recurring theme was the Madonna — depictions ranging from the pious ( Garbow altar ) to the erotic and sensuous ( Edvard Munch ). Attendees enjoyed either a festive roast duck or spinach ravioli dinner , crowned with a trio of desserts . Unfortunately , the rather noisy environment put a damper on our fun ornament exchange , but , nevertheless , everyone went home with a small keepsake to hang on the tree to decorate their home for the holiday season . A thank-you to the organizers , in particular Nanci Schmidt , for making it happen .
