OUR WATER SUPPLY
NOT JUST A DROUGHT STORY
Thanks to our collective conservation efforts, we had enough water to get through the historic four year drought.
Then winter storms brought us plenty of snow and rain. We are pleased to report that our Hetch Hetchy Regional Water
System, serving 2.6 million people in the Bay Area, is near capacity. Our Hetch Hetchy Reservoir can store up to 117
billion gallons of high-quality drinking water and provides about 85% of the Bay Area’s water supply. We are fortunate
to have a healthy snowpack, which serves as our secondary storage. It will melt during the spring and summer and
continue to provide us with water during the dry months. Even so, we know that California will eventually face another
drought. There is never enough water to waste. Our customers know this; we have some of the lowest residential usage
per capita in the nation. Keep up the great work! Learn more about our water supply at sfwater.org/wedeliver.
