Redux
March 17, 2020 Special
Municipal Election
The human experience is such
that each generation must learn
anew about traditions and his-
tory’s catalysts, and with time
passage the story tends to
morph, at least by some who tell
of the events. And after a while
the facts, and alternative facts
mix with dis- and mis-information
to form myths and rumors much
like the Pizza Gate event in New
York. So it comes as no surprise
to this writer, who has been
around for many years and partic-
ipated in and chaired the last
Charter Review Committee, that
the
generational
pendulum
swings again, this time to change
back to the original election
process by voting in March Spe-
cial Elections as opposed to
November General Elections. As
well as extend the terms of Com-
missioners and stagger the
reelection dates.
During the last review, we
debated all the same options. In
the end, we determined that staff
members are in charge of day to
day activities and thus staggered
terms for commissioners were
unnecessary. Furthermore, very
few ambitions require four years
to birth, and the Mayor has an
extended term so as to provide
continuity, thus extended terms
were not needed. Short terms
inherently provide term limits
given the electorate small size.
Resolution: WHEREAS, pur-

Commission Chambers of the
City of Pompano Beach; and
WHEREAS, a public hearing
before the City Commission was
held pursuant to the published
notice described above, at which
hearing the parties in interest and
all other citizens so desiring had
an opportunity to be and were, in
fact, heard; now, therefore, BE IT
