Currents December 2018 > continued from page 3 Circumstance While the United States is dealing with the extreme right swing of the pendulum, the rest of the world, which has been dealing with the conse- quences of the climate change and its refugees, is again showing its tendency toward protectionism. Daily migrants from the current resource wars are driving the same Nationalism movement across the globe with no end in sight. The latest report, if one can believe such things, tells us that the tail-end of the baby boomers’ generation, will spend the “golden years” fighting for resources and against weather extremes. Some parts of the global wil bel okay for another generation, but weather extremes will tarnish the golden years, much like the movie “Interstellar” more and more human and technical resources will be dedicated to caring for the 8 billion humans occupying the planet. Currently, the worlds largest corporations have gained control over most fresh water sources and are sell- ing back to the population. Imag- ine the price of water when the only potable water on the planet belongs to corporations. Pompano Beach Locally, the tight mayoral race finally went to District 3 Commis- sioner Rex Hardin, who only ran negative and untrue ads and whose website lists only vague accomplishments and whose per- sonal financial life makes his fis- cal competence suspect. Not to mention his criminal ethics viola- tions. Nonetheless, the people chose him to lead the city into more of the same. The only posi- tive issue raised by his campaign continued on page 6 > 5
