Rachael Carson was a voice in the wilderness when she warned about the dangers of environmen- tal pollution in her famous book, The Silent Spring. When I lecture for more than an hour, sometimes my voice gets weak. Then I tell my audience that I have a frog in my throat. When I hear a really sad story, I can’t speak. It’s as if I have a lump in my throat. The students wanted to stop the cut-throat com- petition for admission. The faculty instead tried to ram the new academic requirements down the stu- dents’ throats. No wonder both sides were at each others’ throats. So, dear readers, that’s all for this month.
