If you want to have a voice in this discussion,
calm down and lower your voice. Then you can
voice your opinion. If our committee speaks with
one voice, we’ll be able to approve the new rules for
recycling.
Rachael Carson was a voice in the wilderness
when she warned about the dangers of environmen-
tal pollution in her famous book, The Silent Spring.
When I lecture for more than an hour, sometimes
my voice gets weak. Then I tell my audience that I
have a frog in my throat. When I hear a really sad
story, I can’t speak. It’s as if I have a lump in my
throat.
The students wanted to stop the cut-throat com-
petition for admission. The faculty instead tried to
ram the new academic requirements down the stu-
dents’ throats. No wonder both sides were at each
others’ throats.
So, dear readers, that’s all for this month. Please
keep an eye out for the May edition of Currents.
