At first, these entertaining stories may seem childish because they describe a make- believe world where animals often talk and behave like human beings. Beneath this apparent simplicity, however, fairy tales explore universal problems such as love, jealousy, abuse or intolerance. Let’s look at the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The story line is quite simple. Little Riding Hood wants to visit her grand- mother who lives in the forest. Before the little girl leaves, her mother tells her to be careful and, above all, not to speak to strangers. After all, the forest can be a dangerous place for little girls. Little Red Riding Hood is not afraid of going to her grand- mother’s. She loves this new freedom because it makes her feel like an adult.
