F
rom the time I started coming to PFA
Symposiums in 1995, I saw how much
work and effort was involved. Throughout
the year PFA makes Continued Education
Opportunities (CEUs) and other Member ser-
vices available…I appreciated it. However, I firmly
believe that going to the Symposium and all the
knowledge made available to you…that even if you
come home with only one piece of information and
truly make it work for you, it’s time well spent.
On the way to breakfast at the last Symposium, I
was talking to our past-president Jay Zaffater about
what went on to bring an event like this together.
He explained the months of planning and sacri-
fice behind the scenes. It is easy to overlook all the
details needed to pull an event like this off. This
conversation really made me realize…they could
use some assistance. I realized that I had to con-
tribute to help keep the organization thriving.
I felt that being in the “trenches” (classes) with my
peers and my “ear to the ground” with the vendors,
I would be able to get a general consensus on the

Symposium. I enjoyed it but what was really suc-
cessful about it and where could the improvements
be made? I wanted to help get more people to come
to the event because it truely represents us…the
pedorthist. Without support for these events and
the organazations that provide them, I was worried
we would otherwise disappear.
So, that is why I became a PFA Board member. I
felt I could do something to help improve PFA and
the pedorthic profession. Listening to other people,
contributing what I can, this is what I hope to
bring to the Board. I hope by reading this maybe
it will get you thinking… join the Board, support
the PFA Symposium, the Continuing Education
Programs so we will improve and continue to
thrive. -PFA
