Rule three, always be able to say yes. As a
Pedorthic shoe retailer we need to be able
to solve difficult foot issues, whether due
to size, abnormality or disease. What sets
us apart from internet sites and big box
stores is our ability to problem solve. Your
offerings need to include brands/models that
allow you to handle these challenges. These
products may not turn quickly but they are
usually not seasonal products that go out of
style. Most of the customers will be patient if
you need to special order but you need to be
able to show the physical product and have
a shoe to try on even if it isn’t the right size.
Lesson: have some shoes to try that are as
deep and wide as the box they come in.
So, in taking stock of our stock in the new
year I will be looking to:
1) Keep my inventory and store
appearance fresh and exciting with new
styles and colors.
2) We will buy the core products so that
we always have them in stock.
3) We will be sure to have the items we
need to fulfill our role as the problem
solver for the population that needs us
most.
Oh, and also I set budgets for my manager so
I don’t drive him nuts.
