Apple of my Eye Coveted Cookbooks By Cheryl Duncan Assistant editor Autumn, like the spooks that herald its Halloween holiday, sneaks in atop the Plateau. Its nuances are barely discernible. We’re wearing shorts and flip-flops. The grass still needs cutting, and we’re heating up the grill for burgers, chicken and the last of the garden’s harvest. The signs are all there: The hours of daylight in the evening are diminishing, and the long-awaited tomatoes begin sharing basket space with an apple or two.
