The Church of San Martino in Pensilis Domenico De Santis, Gaetano Alessio Forino, Marco Cappabianca, Maria Papa Francesca In the church of San Martino in Pensilis there are spoils of San Leo. The legend tells that he left Cliternia (the spoils) with the chariot and it was pulled by oxen. They were brought at the church of San Martino in Pensilis. Today every 2 nd May there is a celebration of San Leo, but 30 th April is very important for people because there is a race of oxen. In this race there are three chariot competitions : Giovanissimi, Giovani and Giovanotti. San Leo had a very sad childhood due to the divorce between his father and his mother. This has brought a boundless hatred towards religion in Leo, in fact he had not been to church for years until the age of 15. However when his mother fell terribly ill he started praying again. This was a turning point because these prayers led to the healing of his mother so he decided to become a seminarian and once he became a monk he decided to devote his life to thank God for the gift. So San Leo continues, day and night because he became a Benedictine monk. San Leo probably died between 1154 and 1182. 39
