out of the Tequila Plant!
In Mexico the plant that tequila is made of is known as
agave tequilana and here in South Africa scientists would
refer to it as agave sisalana. The plant, which grows wild
pretty much everywhere in the world, is not only responsible
for our best party moments, but has a second purpose:
you can make surfboards out of its harvest! el jimador and
Mahala have teamed up with local artists Ian Armstrong,
Jason Hayes and Stuart Moerdyk to create their very own
tequila surfboards. Ian Armstrong is a board shaper with
the most experience of working with agave in South Africa
and, as you’ll see in these videos, the results reveal the
work of true craftsmanship.
