Our centers opened up just in time for us to partner with Stephanie Neal and the Active Adult Center to bring back our Senior Health Fair and Oktoberfest Senior Day this year . And who didn ’ t get a kick out of seeing our commissioners dancing during Senior Day at the Cullman County Commissioners Fair sponsored by Comfort Care ?!
I learned about Medicare-D Open Enrollment and watched my team at COA counsel with 1,702 seniors regarding upcoming changes to their insurance plans . Through the diligent work and counseling of our staff , this year ’ s savings totaled $ 1,134,792.90 ! I just have to say , I am surrounded by some hard working and dedicated ladies .
As we worked through Open Enrollment we took reservations for our Senior Christmas Party , we accepted donations and distributed them to our homebound , and we appreciated the partnership with Cullman County Parks Director Doug Davenport and his staff as our seniors were provided a night of free entry into the Winter Wonderland Lights Display .
Each of the full-time center managers came back strong in June and earnestly worked to help seniors feel as if they never missed a day let alone 15 months of being apart . There have been some ups and downs due to COVID and centers closed temporarily . We have been able to celebrate holidays , honor our veterans , and enjoy the day to day of coming together . It seems as if everyone appreciates this time given even more and is not taking it for granted .
