Looking back over the past 100 years , she said she could remember when the significant changes in transportation , gas prices , and even technology were taking place .
For example , she explained that using the government death benefits from her first husband she was able to buy a house and 50 acres of farmland for just $ 4,000 .
“ Times really have changed , because you definitely couldn ’ t do that now ,” said S . D . Brock . “ I wouldn ’ t say it is great to live to be 100 , but I will say it has been great to live a life full of history — history that your generation just looks back at in awe .”
She said she couldn ’ t comprehend all the changes but is so glad she has been able to live such an active life .
Her scrapbooks and photo albums show her pride in her family and their accomplishments .
“ And I love going to the senior center ,” she said . “ I love my friends and all we do there . Guess you could say I have just been a part of it for many years .”
The original Telegram that S . D . was sent when her first husband , Lawrence Stricklin , was killed in World War II .
