where other Masters Gardeners meet there just to
help keep the garden in top shape.
“This wasn’t just something I was responsible for
doing though,” he said. “This garden was designed
for use by the whole community. You would be
surprised how many people come here to eat their
lunch or to make pictures. We’ve even had a cou-
ple of weddings in this garden,” said Pete Douthit.
“People often stop and tell me how much they enjoy
it, frequently asking questions about how something
grows or what their plants need.”
Glover described the couple as both being instru-
mental in making sure that the job always gets done
as well as always being a team player with a positive
attitude.
One of the projects that Pete was recognized for
was the addition of some of his prize day lillies to
the garden at the library. He noticed that the land-
scaping there needed a little “punch” so he inquired
of the staff if they would allow him to add some
color—who agreed.
And of course, the end result was amazing—the
color added so much touch.
“To be honest, the reason I enjoy being a part of
the Masters Gardener group, is because I enjoy be-
ing around people and plants, working with flowers
and I absolutely love being part of a group that helps
other people.”
His wife laughed and said her husband has always
been one to go above and beyond for other people,
his community, and it didn’t surprise her that he
had the same kind of go-get em attitude with plants.
‘But as I said before, this isn’t just my love,” Pete
said. “This is also something that my wife, Donnie
and I can do together,” he continued. “We do every-
