with the passage of time,” she said. “When I was younger, horses meant riding and being with my friends. Now, in many ways, they are natural tranquilizers—their very presence can lower my blood pressure and improve my mood. I simply enjoy watching them do their normal horsey activities.” Plus, Kontogeorge said that teaching young children how to ride has been one of her greatest pleasures in life. “I can’t begin to explain it,” she said. “But working with small children and seeing the love for horses grow in them, the knowl- edge, it is an honor to be involved in the process; just even the initial steps.” Kontogeorge shared that most recently she had been training a 4-year-old how to ride and it had been a wonderful, yet challenging experience for her. “One might have thought the accident in the summer would have slowed me down,” she said. “But it didn’t.
