they have a number of cultural things to do .”
Morgan was born in south Georgia , but her father was in the Air Force so the family moved quite a bit . She also eventually joined the Air Force then went to school in Atlanta to become a meeting and event planner . It was at one of the events she organized that she met her late husband Bob .
Along with a love of flying , the two shared a love of animals . Morgan operates an emergency animal rescue in Cullman County , helping dogs and cats find their forever homes . Several of the animals she ’ s rescued have chronic illnesses or injuries that she cares for from her home on Smith Lake .
“ I started rescuing pets when I was about five years old ,” she said . “ We were based in Texas , my dad was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base , and we had a small farm with one horse , one cow , and 17 dogs , all which I picked up from the local dump when he ’ d take stuff to the dump . It was a game that we played ; I ’ d throw them in the backseat and he knew they were there . And driving home he ’ d pretend like he didn ’ t know that I had four dogs in the back seat with me .”
Last year , she began sharing her experience with animals in a monthly column in The Cullman Times , “ Pet Talk .”
“ I ’ ve learned a lot about animals over the years - I ’ ve taken care of so many - and I just want to share some of what I ’ ve learned with other animal lovers ,” she said . “ They can bring so much joy into your life .”
