“ Being a part of that is both a privilege and a responsibility I take seriously,” she said.
After graduating from Auburn with a focus on public relations, Troutman said she was attracted to working in the economic development space because it is about changing lives and shaping the future of the community.
“ It is deeply satisfying when you can see real, tangible results of your work. I like the strategic thinking and strategy required in economic development— it’ s chess, not checkers,” she said.“ Cullman is where I’ m from and where we have raised our children. I want my community to thrive, compete and be proud of itself. That pride— seeing my town win— hits differently than other professions. When a project succeeds, the community benefits, businesses grow and families’ lives change with jobs and opportunities. It is deeply gratifying knowing that you were one of those behind the scenes that helped things happen.”
So what’ s coming next for Cullman? Troutman teased they are seeing quite a bit of activity right now in both industrial and retail projects. Cullman is also looking to capitalize on several recent grants, including a Growing
Alabama grant for improvements to the Frank Property on the eastern side of the city; $ 13.5 million from Congressman Aderholt for the St. Bernard Bridge / US 278 widening project; and a $ 20.39 million MPDG grant last year.
“ I know people get impatient when they hear about funding awards, but don’ t see construction,” she said.“ This project has federal funding, so we have been dealing with a new presidential administration, which caused the re-evaluation of all previously awarded grants; state agencies; government shutdowns; and more. It is frustrating, but things this big just take time. Cullman’ s best days are ahead, and I’ m excited to be part of the work that helps move us forward.”
