SMALL RADIOS , BIG TELEVISIONS
Developer : Fire Face Corporation Price : £ 8.99 Platform : PC Release date : 8 November , 2016

As soon as I saw this had hit the release schedule , I knew I ' d be picking it up . If I have a natural weakness for anything , it ' s for colourful , odd games that use unconventional gameplay and intriguing concepts .

It ' s the weakness that ' s taken me the joys of Jazzpunk and Tim Schafer ' s pantheon of titles , among others .
So picking up Small Radios , Big Televisions was an easy decision , helped by a slick and attractive website that hit all the above buttons a second time .
And it is well presented . Viewing the world from a fairly fixed side
on perspective , gameplay takes the form of a number of rooms where tapes full of data and experiences must be gathered by solving increasingly difficult puzzles .
It ' s simple , but not always too easy to figure out and a nice change for those who don ' t like a lot of pressure in their gameplay .
The tapes , once gathered , can be used to gain access to a number of interactable VR-esque sequences to buy access to new areas , which in turn provide new tapes .
It ' s a very simple stucture , and I was left feeling
that there could have been more made of the theme of old technology , particlarly given the qirks of magnetic media .
Graphically , Small
Radios knows what it wants to do and executes it
brilliant . It straddles the line between modern and retro very nicely indeed , and the oddly filtered colours recall watching dodgy VHS tapes in the late 1990s perfectly .
As a whole package , Small Radios ,
Big Televisions isn ' t going to light the world in eighties fire , but it offers a decent length and interesting gameplay . With the inevitable Steam winter sale incoming , it might be an ideal candidate .
